Experiencing visits from spirits during sleep can be a deeply personal and sometimes unsettling experience. If these encounters are leaving you feeling exhausted, it’s important to explore ways to manage your sleep and physical/mental/emotional health if this is happening to you.
What Are Spirits Visits in My Sleep?
Spirit visits during sleep are often described as vivid dreams or night-time visions. Some people interpret these encounters as messages, guidance, or connections with loved ones who have passed away, while others see them as part of the subconscious mind processing emotions and memories.
From my own experiences when a loved one has appeared in my dream, the way they appear in my dream is very pertinent, they can be standing in a glowing light, or we are sitting talking togther, it's not a fleeting thing or rambled like dreams can be. I have also had dreams where I have felt a pressure on my chest or a dark figure coming towards me even though I can't see anyone there, it's an intense feeling. Spirit can also visit when there is a special event or celebration that was/is also important to them/you! There are many reasons.
People can also report:
Feeling a presence or seeing a figure
Vivid, sometimes emotional, dream content
A sense of communication or exchange
Feeling drained or exhausted upon waking
Why Does This Make Me Feel Exhausted?
Emotional intensity: Encounters may being back strong feelings such as grief or fear. If we are or have been going through some kind of turmoil or emotional/mental trauma our energyfield is already impacted and therefore our energy field/boundaries are already low.
Sleep disruption: Waking up during or after these experiences can disturb your sleep cycle and then make it difficult to get back into a routine.
Psychological stress: Ongoing encounters might cause anxiety, confusion or fear. If stress levels are already high during the day, if this stress is not "downloaded" in some way it can disrupt how the mind/body clears stress (or not) during sleep and it becomes an ongoing cycle.
Energy drain: Visits can be energetically intense, leaving you feeling depleted as you/spirit are using the energy that should be used to restore your body during sleep time.
What Can you Do About It?
Establish a Calm Bedtime Routine
Choose relaxing acitvities before sleep: meditation, gentle yoga, or reading.
Have a bath, shower or general wash down to cleanse your body from the day
Avoid stimulating content from mobile phones or stressful conversations or overthinking thinking before bed.
Write out your emotions - how are you feeling? Is there space to let out what needs to be felt that you haven't had time to pay attention to during the day?
Create a Protective Sleep Environment
Use calming scents like lavender or cedarwood.
Keep your bedroom tidy and free of clutter to promote a peace environement and so that energy can flow around the room and not get "stagnant."
You could open the window for 10minutes or so before bedtime to refresh the energy in the room where you sleep.
Go outside and look at the moon before bed or take a short walk barefoot on the grass.
Place crystals such as black tourmaline or smokey quartz under your pillow.
You could consider a grounding mat/sheet/pillow case for the bed.
Use visualisations such as protective light or energy around you before sleep.
Listen to calming music created especially for sleeptime
You could also try to explore e.g. what is going on in your life that they are coming to support you with? and then do some self work or seek support.
Set Intentions
Before sleeping, affirm your intention to have peaceful, positive dreams, both say it and write it down.
Do energy clearing rituals regularly such as smudging with sage or palo santo.
Maintain Good Sleep Hygiene
Stick to a consistent sleep/wake schedule.
Limit caffeine/ alcohol intake, especially close to bedtime.
Avoid screens at least an hour before sleep.
Drink calming and soothing herbal teas before bed such as chamomile or lemon balm.
Seek Emotional Support and Manage Stress
Talk with trusted friends, family, or a spiritual advisor about your experiences.
Consider consulting a therapist if feelings of exhaustion or fear persist.
Regular meditation or mindfulness practices can help you stay centered and calm
Engage in activities that recharge your energy during the day.
Journaling before bed can help to release any physical/mental/emotional energy that has built up during the day whether that be about work or something else.
When to Seek Professional Help
As always, if these experiences are causing significant distress, anxiety, or persistent exhaustion you could try talking to a mental health professional to explore underlying psychological factors.
A psychic medium may be able to help with what messages the spirits are trying to tell you during your sleep. Often when we are going through times of personal struggle that is when spirit want to come and visit to help! Ask them to try another way, e.g. during meditation or at a different time/place that suits you.
Overall, spirit visits during sleep can be profound and meaningful, but they shouldn’t compromise your health or peace of mind. Sleep is incredibly important. By re-establishing boundaires, changing routines, maintaining good sleep hygiene, and seeking support, you can create a more peaceful sleep as well as create meaning from these visits but not in ways that are disruptive to your health and wellbeing.
